7-Grain Cereal

1/3 cup cereal

1 cup water cups water

Combine cereal and water in a saucepan and bring to a boil. Simmer for 5 to 8 minutes. Makes 1 serving.

Izzie’s Irish Oats

1 cup water

1/4 cup cereal

Add cereal to water, bring to a boil. Simmer for 35 to 40 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add more water if necessary.

Makes 1 serving.

Spicy Southwestern Soup Mix

1 cup mix

5 cups water or stock

Combine soup mix and water.  Boil for 5 minutes. Reduce temperature and simmer, covered, for 60 to 90 minutes, adding water if necessary. Season with lime juice and chopped fresh cilantro. Soup may be frozen and reheated.  Yield: One-cup dry mix makes 7 to 8 cups of soup.

TVP

1 cup TVP

7/8 cup boiling water

Great for burgers, entrées, chili or vegetarian entrees..

Pour water over TVP. Stir, cover, allow to  sit 4 to 5 minutes. Add to your recipe. Rehydrates to 3 times its size. For hot foods, requires minimal cooking.

Wild Rice Vegetable Soup Mix

1 cup mix

8 cups water

Bring to a boil, cover and simmer for 45-60 minutes. Add water as necessary. To season, and basil, garlic, bay leaves, salt and pepper. One-cup dry mix yields 7-8 cups of soup.

WIld Rice

Wash wild rice with cold water and then drain. Bring 1 part wild rice and 3 parts water to a boil. Then cover and strong simmer for about 40-45 minutes. Drain or let the water steam off for the last few minutes of cooking.

32-Bean and 8-Vegetable Soup/Chili

Use 1 part soup mix and 8 parts water.

Bring to a boil for 5 minutes. Then simmer 2-3 hours. Modify, if you wish, by adding ham (hock or diced), poultry, or beef.

17 Bean Soup

Use 1 part soup mix and 4 parts water.

Bring to a boil for 5 minutes. Then simmer 2-3 hours. Add more water as needed. Modify, if you wish, by adding ham (hock or diced), poultry, or beef.

Pahonka's Waffle Mix

3 cups mix
3 cups water (soy or dairy milk may be substituted if desired)

1/2 cup vegetable oil (if using olive oil, use 1/3 cup instead)

Blend ingredients together and spoon the mix onto a pre-heated waffle iron.

Pahonka's Pancake Mix

3 cups mix

2 2/3 to 3 cups water (soy or dairy milk may be substituted if desired)

1/2 cups oil (if using olive oil, use 1/3 cup instead)

Blend ingredients together and spoon the mix onto a pre-heated griddle or pan. Cook until side is golden brown, turning only once, to brown other side.
