What is the Farm Crawl, and how does it work?

The Farm Crawl is an annual event, with all event proceeds going to benefit Food Works, a local non-profit organization facilitating the development of a regional food economy in southern Illinois. It is an event where local farmers open up their farms to share a bit of their lives with the community. It is a great way to connect with the local growers that sustainably supply our region and work hard to make it an amazing place to live.

How to participate and what to expect:

  1. You have to purchase a car pass to participate. A car pass will give your entire carload access to regional farm tours (for the day or for the full weekend depending on the pass you choose).

  2. Plan ahead!

  3. Itinerary & farm route: Read on each farm and plan a route that is best for the passengers in your vehicle ahead of time to make the most of your trip. It is best to allow at least an hour for each farm you want to visit.
  4. Food/supplies: Some farms have food you can purchase on-site, but you may want to pack a cooler and bring snacks of your own to have between stops. Some of our farms are remote and only accept cash. Plan accordingly.
  5. Rain or Shine: The Farm Crawl happens rain or shine, so be prepared!
  6. Safety: Pets are not allowed on the tour. Keep your furry friends at home, so you can enjoy others at some of the farms instead!

Car Passes

Car passes are available for pre-order starting mid-July online. They may also be purchased at the Co-op starting mid-to late August. Don't delay, as we only have a limited number of passes available. This event is a self-guided tour and will require your own transportation.

  • Single day car passes are $15. Visit the area of your choosing: (A) North Region or (B) Central & Southeast Region.

  • Multi-day (Flex) passes are $25. Use them either day (or both days) to access all of the farms on the tour!

Please note: North region farms will tour on Saturday, September 14, ONLY. Central & Southeast farms will tour on Sunday, September 15, ONLY.

The Crawl is open from 1-5 pm on both days. When you buy a pass, you will receive an event bag, which includes items from our sponsors, along with an event booklet guide. You can choose to pickup your event bag at the Neighborhood Co-op or you can choose an option to have it shipped directly to your door (add on an event t-shirt, if purchased).

Farmers

Farmers volunteer 100% of their time to help us raise funds and awareness about the food system in our area, share the ups and downs about to farming, along with vast knowledge about what they do. We can't thank them enough for participating in this unique experience!

We are in contact with farmers/producers for 2024 and will share the farms participating this year as they apply!
