From the governor's office, "To slow the spread of the highly transmissible COVID-19 Delta variant, all Illinois residents over the age of two will be required to wear a mask in all indoor settings, effective Monday, August 30th." The Co-op will be upholding the mandate, requiring all customers to wear face coverings while shopping in the store. We plan to have paper masks available at the door, however availability will be based on demand. Please plan to bring your own to be on the safe side.We appreciate your cooperations and kindness toward our employees, who without them, we wouldn't be able to keep our doors open.

Community room will be open for use and other services will remain the same.

The Co-op is encouraging ALL customers to cover up while shopping in the store. Updated mask guidance from the CDC, IDPH, and the City of Carbondale recommends that all individuals wear a face covering indoors, regardless of vaccination status. Help our community stay healthy!

As Governor JB Pritzker announces phase 5, the Co-op is relaxing the face cover policy, asking non-vaccinated customer to continue to wear a mask. Our community room will reopen to the public as an eating area again. Customers are welcomed to bring in their own coffee mugs and

bulk containers. The Co-op is back to its normal practices pre-pandemic!

While the CDC and state have relaxed mask mandates, the Co-op encourages customers and staff to continue to use face coverings out of consideration to those who are immunocompromised or are otherwise unable to get vaccinated. We understand that people who are vaccinated are exempt from wearing a mask, but we still strongly encourage the use of face coverings as a courtesy. Thank you for your cooperation!

We continue to relax our restriction on our bulk section based on the recommendations of the Health Department. You can now use your own personal contains for bulk items. Please make sure they have been sanitized before use. Reusable shopping bags are allowed if you bag your groceries. Our community room is still closed at this time, but we do have outdoor seating available for customers.

With a spike in COVID-19 cases, it is required of us to continue to monitor the situation. As such, we are once again having to shut down our community room to prevent gatherings and to protect staff. Also, we ask that you don't use the inside window counter to eat at. 

​

We continue to enforce mask wearing in the store and are limiting capacity to 30 shoppers at any one time. 

​

Personal bags: As of now, customers can still bring their own reusable bags from home. People can place them in carts and/or baskets, but we ask that you bag your own groceries in order to protect our employees. Please note there is still a restriction on the use of personal containers for the bulk department and our coffee station. Thank you for your continued understanding.

Phase four of COVID-19, we have opened up our community room with limited seating. We ask that you continue to respect social distancing and only remove your mask while you are seated. If you are not using one of our tables, please continue to wear your mask.

Our bulk section is back in its original area, the back corner of the store. At this time, we will continue to package our bulk items.

 

Deli will slowly roll out new hot bar options. These items will continue to be put in a grab-n-go box. Coffee is also now available. We ask that you consume your coffee in the community room or outside the store. Please no personal coffee containers at this time.

 

Please continue to wear a mask in store; social distance; limit your shopping trips; and no personal containers or bags.

Beginning Friday, May 1, the Co-op will be implementing the following...At the order of Governor JB Pritzker, all customers are required to wear a facial covering while in stores. We plan to have paper masks available at the door, however availability will be based on demand. Please plan to bring your own to be on the safe side.

Co-op staff safety is a priority for us. All Co-op staff are wearing face coverings while on the retail floor.  Face shields are allowed in lieu of masks for those who cannot medically tolerate them.  In the non-retail parts of the store, staff are not required to wear a face covering if they can maintain a 6-foot distance from other staff.  As a practical matter, this applies only to administrative staff at their desks and bakers who arrive hours before anyone else is in the store.

New occupancy limits will also be enforced. Therefore only 30 customers will be allowed in the store at any given time. This number is based on the square footage of our store. Please consider one member per household so that we are able to maximize the number of customers needing to shop.

 

We greatly appreciate everyone’s cooperation with these requirements. Together we can provide a safer shopping and working environment.

Staff is working hard trying to bag all of our bulk items. NOTE: due to space issues, we have moved all the pre-bagged bulk items to our Community Room located by the check out counters. Bulk items that you normal get from the refrigerator section will still be located in the same place. We are also asking customers to try to keep your special orders to 5lbs. Our suppliers our stressed by demands, and we want to make sure all customers have assess to the supplies they need.

Personal bags: We respectfully ask that customers not bring in personal bags. Again this is a need to reduce the spreading of the virus. If you need to bag items, please consider taking a store cart to your car and bag your items that way. These measures are to help reduce any expose to our staff and appreciate your understanding.

​

Wooden Nickels: At this time we are suspending our Wooden Nickels program. Once we are in the clear of this pandemic, we will resume the program.

The current state of our bulk department is as follows. We were informed Friday, March 20, that the Health Department requested we remove our bulk bins. Until we are told otherwise, our bins will not be directly available to the public. However we plan on packaging as much as possible so that customers can continue to have access to those products. At this point though, we can not take orders because we don't have enough staff on hand to to fill them. If you do come into the store and can't find what you are looking for, please ask a staff member and they will try to assist as much as possible. We know this is a bit of an inconvenience, but we want to make sure we are taking the proper steps in keeping everyone safe.

We have also suspended our self serve coffee station. Continuing the focus on providing crucial services at our store, we are unable to offer hot coffee at this time.

The Co-op is working hard on continuing to provide crucial services at our store. We want to ensure our customers that our highest priority is maintaining a healthy and safe environment for our guests and staff. The following precautionary measures are being made:

We will be reducing store hours in order to give staff the support they need to stock shelves, clean and to take care of personal needs. Starting Thursday, March 19, our store hours will be 9am-7pm, Monday through Sunday. Deli hours will also be reduced to 11am-6pm, Monday through Sunday. 

​

Other measures include the following:
• Our Community room is closed for public use

• All sampling has been suspended; all product testers have been removed from shelves

• As of now we have canceled all large group events through the end of April

• Please no personal containers for bulk items in order to reduce cross contamination

• Coffee Club is suspended; no personal tumblers or mugs should be used to get coffee

• Some products have been restricted to limited quantities, store signage will indicate limitations

Deli Changes

It is our plan to continue offering our hot bar menu, but it may vary depending on supplies we receive and customer needs. Other measures we are taking are as follows:

• As an extra precaution, we are prepackaging all our meals, pasta salads, pizzas, etc.

• There will be no made-to-order sandwiches or salads at this time.

• Soups, pizzas, and daily entrees will be packaged and located in our hot box.

• Grab-N-Go case is where you can find all your favorite salads, sides, and pre-made sandwiches.

• Bakery goods such as breads, cookies, scones, muffins, etc. will all be pre-bagged.
